Family History Research
An important part of the operations of the Mudgee Historical Society Inc involves family history research. Resources have been compiled since the foundations of the Society in 1964 and our volunteer research team members are able to conduct research from the Society’s now extensive resources. The information we provide is primarily based on the unique archives that are available at the Museum. This can be records such as baptisms, funeral directors and burial records, numerous computerised databases, or it may be inormation generously provided by family members or other researchers including family trees, letters or certificates. This can be combined with other information available online such as newspaper articles. Note: Our archives are currently being digitised to enable greater public access. This includes Town and Rural properties collections as well as our Family Files.
To make a research enquiry
Email our researchers and include as many details as possible about what information you are searching for, as well as an overview of what you currently know. You can download our PDF research form to use as a guide if you wish.
Please liaise with our family history researchers first to ensure that we are able to assist with your particular enquiry. You may do this by phoning the museum on (02) 63727395 on a Monday, sending an email or visiting the Museum.
Research onsite at the Museum
If you wish to visit us at the Museum, we also offer the possibility of Assisted Research on Mondays between 10am and 2pm when our research team is available. This involves the researcher assisting with your enquiry by providing any relevant information from our archives. You may either choose to transcribe from our documents or have photocopies made. No photos are permitted in the research room.
If you are planning a visit to the Museum, please let us know and we will be able to gather as much information as possible beforehand for you to get the full benefit of your visit.
DONATION (for research)
As from January 2021, we ask for a donation to support the maintenance and preservation of our archives.
You may make your donation by either:
* Internet transfer: please contact us via email requesting bank account details which will be forwarded to you.
* Cash or card at the time of your visit
