Welcome to the Mudgee Museum, headquarters of the Mudgee Historical Society Inc.

The Mudgee Historical Society is excited to announce that the Mudgee Colonial Inn Museum has now officially been renamed the Mudgee Museum.  This new name makes it easier for visitors to the region to tell where we are located, and better reflects our mission to tell the story of Mudgee and the surrounding areas.

Latest News

Temporary Closure Alert!

The Mudgee Museum will be closed from Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14th as we are beginning construction on our new accessible toilet.  The construction will affect access to our existing toilet facilities, requiring the closure.  We expect further closures to be necessary as the construction progresses, and we will post updates here and on our website as the timing is firmed up with the builder.  We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience, and thank you for your support in improving the accessibility of our facilities!

Great news for our volunteers, we are now able to resume our Tuesday morning working sessions. Please note that social distancing must be observed at all times, and if you are showing any symptoms of COVID-19 or feeling unwell, please do not come to the museum and speak to your doctor.  We ask for your understanding if you find the museum hours change on short notice or if we are unexpectedly closed, as we are asking everyone who feels at all unwell, including our volunteers, not to come to the museum.   We will do our best to organise replacement staff but this may not always be possible.  Online book sales are still available, as is family history research - please send us an email and we will get back to you.  Self research using the Museum's resources is currently not available.

Our Collection

The Mudgee Museum has a broad range of items in its collection, principally from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and with many items of Australian manufacture. The collection contains circa 60,000 items displayed in several buildings on site which include a mid-nineteenth century hotel, an early twentieth century church, and a replica of a slab hut.
